MAR FM has been contracted (via our subsidiary Sovereign FM) to undertake Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, service and repairs for Macfarlanes since 2006.

The Macfarlanes portfolio comprises a mixture of both old and modern buildings, infrastructure and systems. This presented a diverse challenge in ensuring a uniform quality of service and safe and comfortable work environments, across all four locations. Thorough assessments were required at each facility, focusing on areas such as capital plant, fire safety systems and electrical distribution equipment, conducting inspections and installing replacements, where necessary.
To allow for consistent and effective management of statutory and maintenance tasks going forward, the client was in need of a bespoke maintenance planning and record system. An essential aspect of the project was to carry out all actions while achieving minimum disruption to the business, calling for a significant proportion of the activities to be conducted outside of typical working hours.
The approach to this project was two-fold; Firstly, focusing on the assessment and swift rectification of faults found at the facility, including engaging, vetting and managing specialist contractors, where required. This was followed by the implementation of robust and consistent processes and a reliable recording system, allowing for effective and clearly defined support going forward.
The tailor-made solution put in place for Macfarlanes captured all statutory items from fire alarm system servicing and electrical installation condition reports, through to PAT testing, F-gas checks, emergency lighting certifications and boiler servicing. This ensured routine actions were completed on-time. Additionally, the system’s capability of logging and automatically prioritising calls, facilitated a continuously reliable service, while optimising the comfort of the environment for the occupants.
During the course of our long and successful relationship with this client, we have continued to refine these technologies and procedures, continuously developing and improving our service offering and methods of operation.
Alongside delivering the routine Mechanical and Electrical maintenance and servicing for Marfarlanes, in the last 16 years MAR FM has assisted in a wide variety of projects, from capital plant replacement, to the reprogramming of building
management systems and, more recently, supporting in a large scale project to enhance operations and reduce Carbon emissions across the business. In addition, MAR has provided assistance in the control and prevention of Covid-19, helping to minimise disruption to the business.
